The visionaries who bring Mosaics to life
Artist StatementMy work is rooted in a lifelong habit of looking closely. As a child, pencil and paper were always within reach, teaching me to observe with patience and intention. That early discipline eventually led me to sculpture, where I earned an MFA with a focus on bronze and developed a deep respect for material process. Years of travel broadened my visual vocabulary, introducing me to new surfaces, traditions, and methods of making.
Today I work intuitively with mosaic tile, clay, and stained glass. I’m drawn to the way texture, color, and form can shift the energy of a composition, and I let those elements guide the evolution of each piece. While my materials have changed over time, drawing and design remain the quiet structure beneath my practice—the foundation that shapes how I compose, refine, and bring a work to life.
My mosaics are built through touch, rhythm, and responsiveness. Each piece is an accumulation of choices informed by years of looking, learning, and experimenting. I’m also fortunate to have the support of my husband, Terry, whose help in the making process—both practical and behind the scenes—strengthens the work in ways that reflect our shared commitment to craft.
Whether integrated into architectural space or created as a standalone artwork, every mosaic reflects my ongoing fascination with how fragments come together to form something whole. ************************************************ When Jane isn’t hiking, scuba diving, or walking dogs with her husband Terry in Key West, she’s thinking about mosaics and ceramics. She holds an MFA from Illinois State University and has spent decades developing a vibrant, multidisciplinary art practice. Her work reflects a lifelong dedication to craft, color, and the joy of creating pieces that become part of the spaces people live and gather in.
